Vienna College, Namugongo, is a private co-education institution, it opened its doors to international students early in January 2000. It rapidly established itself as a haven for senior students from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Europe, the United States and of course, its home setting-Uganda.

Vienna College is a home to over four hundred students, most of whom reside on the extensive campus. The focus for their academic education is preparation and participation in the UNEB ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level examination programmes. Vienna College is a Cambridge International (CIE) Centre UG0010 offering I.G.C.S.E and G.C.E “A-level” Courses. Currently, Vienna College is the largest C.I.E Centre in Uganda basing on the enrollment and candidates entered for I.G.C.S.E and “A” Level Examinations for November 2007..

The location of the College, on a cool hilltop some ten kilometres East of Kampala, provides few distractions to the life and routine of the students and the expectations and commitment are of a high order and the performances of the Vienna examination candidates reflect this most satisfactorily.

The classroom and laboratory blocks are functional and well equipped and the residential, dormitory, accommodation matches the teaching facilities. An airy dining area, separate canteen, basketball court and large playing field complete the school site.

Vienna College was taken over by a new Board of Directors. The Board and Management’s priority is to improve and maintain the good reputation enjoyed by the school in terms of academic excellency and grooming youngsters to develop life-long skills that will enable them achieve their private and social goals. The Headmaster, Kakiika Mohammed has over 18 years experience as a teacher and an administrator in International schools both in Uganda and South Africa. He is passionate with teaching and also a hand’s on administrator. He believes in giving students opportunities that develop their life-long skills to compete in this global village. “Every child is different.” A comprehensive refurbishment programme started immediately. The motto for the College is “Education we can be proud of” and the vision held for Vienna is to produce high quality future citizens capable of not only taking a constructive and valuable part in any society they may find themselves in, but also to be ambitious and aim to aspire to become future captains of industry and commerce and possibly leaders of their home country. Lofty aims but, given the calibre of the teaching staff and the students they nurture, it is more realistic than idealistic.

Extra and co-curricular experiences are seen as equally important to the academic diet pursued by Vienna students, and there is a rich and varied programme of clubs and societies available to assist in not only broadening their horizons, but to develop their character and social skills. Similarly, expeditions, field trips and visits are encouraged in the College.

Religion also plays an important part in the lives of the students and an encouraging number of religions coexist in the school and communal worship is pursued by most students. As well as the spiritual dimension of the student, the physical development of the community is enhanced by a nutritious and well balanced menu of meals available. The College has a disciplined structure to its life and routine and much selfdiscipline is imposed on the students as a preparation for the world outside. Medical care is provided on site by a IAA a reputable health provider.

Community awareness is fostered through a number of charity enterprises in the college and it is planned to offer The International, (Duke of Edinburgh), Award in the future.

It is also the intention to offer Cambridge International Examinations in the near future and develop the infrastructure of a college undoubtedly destined to become one of the best, if not the best, colleges in Uganda and East Africa and perhaps even wider afield.

The staff are all well qualified graduates in their individual specialist teaching subjects and they are led by a Headmaster-Peter Morris, who has run schools in several different countries. For more detailed information and an arranged visit please contact the school.

Mission: "to enable students develop life-long skills".
